১. Shaheed Minar is the symbol of our love and sincerity which is achieved for supreme sacrifice of our language martyrs. It is located in front of Dhaka Medical College. Hamidur Rahman, a famous architect designed this significant monument. Its vertical lines symbolize the manifestations of inner strength. The four columns on both sides of the central structure reflect the balance and harmony of united stand. Today, it has become a part of our political as well as cultural achievement and national source of inspiration.

অনুবাদ : শহিদ মিনার আমাদের ভালোবাসা ও আন্তরিকতার প্রতীক যার জন্য আমাদের ভাষা শহিদরা সর্বোচ্চ আত্মত্যাগ করেন। এটি ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজের সামনে অবস্থিত। বিখ্যাত স্থপতি হামিদুর রহমান এই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থাপত্যের নকশা করেছিলেন। এর উলম্ব সারিগুলো অন্তর্নিহিত শক্তি প্রকাশের প্রতীক স্বরূপ। কেন্দ্রীয় কাঠামোর উভয়পার্শ্বে-চারটি স্তম্ভ একতা ও সাম্যের ঐক্যবদ্ধ প্রয়াস বোঝায়। আজ এটি আমাদের রাজনীতিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক অর্জন এবং জাতীয় অনুপ্রেরণার উৎসের অংশ হয়েছে।

২. Man cannot live alone. So he likes to keep company. He cannot do without the help of other even for a day. For this reason men have been living together for many days. This is called social life. None can go according to this sweet will in society.

অনুবাদ : মানুষ একা বাস করতে পারে না। তাই সে সঙ্গী রাখতে পছন্দ করে। অন্যের সাহায্য ছাড়া সে একদিনও চলতে পারে না। এজন্য মানুষ বহুকাল ধরে একত্রে বাস করে আসছে। একেই বলে সমাজ জীবন। সমাজে কেউ তার খেয়ালখুশিমতো চলতে পারে না।

৩. Family is the first school where the child learns his lessons. The first lessons are very essential for developing his mind. He sees, hears and begins to learn in his family. Family builds his character. In a good family honest and healthy men are made.

অনুবাদ: পরিবারই প্রথম বিদ্যালয় যেখানে একটি শিশু তার প্রথম পাঠ শিখে। তার মানসিক উন্নতির জন্য প্রথম পাঠগুলো খুবই জরুরি। সে তার পরিবার থেকে দেখতে, শুনতে এবং শুরু করতে শিখে। পরিবারই তার চরিত্র গঠন করে। ভালো পরিবারে সৎ ও সুস্থ মানুষ তৈরি হয়।

৪. Trees are our friends. It helps us in different ways. It gives us shade, food, fuel, medicine and oxygen. Trees make our environment beautiful. Trees are our valuable wealth. It is very much necessary to make afforestation programme successful.

অনুবাদ : গাছ আমাদের বন্ধু । এটি আমাদের বিভিন্নভাবে সাহায্য করে। এটি আমাদের ছায়া, খাদ্য, জ্বালানি, ঔষধ ও অক্সিজেন দেয়। গাছ আমাদের পরিবেশকে সুন্দর করে তোলে। গাছ আমাদের মূল্যবান সম্পদ। তাই খুবই জরুরি বনায় কর্মসূচিকে সফল করে তোলা।

৫. Patriotism is a very noble virtue. It means love for one's country. A person who loves his/her country more than anything else is called a patriot. Patriotism inspires a man to do everything just and fair for the wellbeing and betterment of the country. It is the invaluable quality that impels a man to sacrifice his own interest, comfort pleasure and even his life for the sake of his/her country. To a true patriot mother and the motherland are the same.

অনুবাদ : দেশপ্রেম একটি মহৎ গুণ। এর অর্থ হলো দেশের প্রতি কারও ভালোবাসা । যিনি তার দেশকে অন্য যেকোনো কিছু চেয়েও বেশি ভালোবাসেন তিনিই দেশপ্রেমিক। দেশের মঙ্গল ও সুনামের জন্য ন্যায় ও ভালো কাজ করতে দেশপ্রেম মানুষকে উদ্বুদ্ধ করে। এটি একটি অমূল্য বৈশিষ্ট্য যা মানুষকে তার স্বার্থ, স্বাচ্ছন্দ্য, আনন্দ এমনকি দেশের জন্য তার জীবন বিসর্জন দিতে বাধ্য করে। একজন সত্যিকার দেশপ্রেমিকের কাছে মা ও মাতৃভূমি অভিন্ন।

৬.About half of the population of our country is illiterate. They can neither read nor write whereas man cannot prosper without education. Our government is trying to eradicate illiteracy. At present, the literacy rate of our country is increasing. It is very good news for us.

অনুবাদ : আমাদের দেশের প্রায় অর্ধেক লোক নিরক্ষর। তারা পড়তে কিংবা লিখতে পারে না। অথচ শিক্ষা ছাড়া মানুষ উন্নতি করতে পারে না । আমাদের সরকার নিরক্ষরতা দূর করতে চেষ্টা করছেন। বর্তমানে আমাদের শিক্ষার হার বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। এটা আমাদের জন্য খুব ভালো সংবাদ।

৭. All of us should try to improve our education. Because development of a country is not possible without educating her total population. So, the number of schools and colleges should be increased. Teachers, students. guardians all should have passion for education. True education is not possible in an institution where there is no discipline. Giving due respect to the teachers in a society is also a must.

অনুবাদ : শিক্ষার উন্নতির জন্য আমাদের সকলের চেষ্টা করা উচিত। কারণ গোটা জনগোষ্ঠীকে শিক্ষিত করতে না পারলে দেশের উন্নতি সম্ভব নয়। তাই স্কুল-কলেজের সংখ্যা বাড়ানো উচিত। শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী এবং অভিভাবক সমাজ সকলেরই শিক্ষার প্রতি অনুরাগ থাকা বাঞ্ছনীয়। যে শিক্ষায়তনে শৃঙ্খলা নেই, সেখানে প্রকৃত শিক্ষা সম্ভব নয়। সমাজে শিক্ষকের উপযুক্ত মর্যাদা-দানও একান্ত প্রয়োজন।

৮. A man's sight is his greatest treasure. There is no greater misfortune in life than blindness. A blind person cannot see the beauties of nature. He cannot see the lovely butterfly. He cannot discover the treasure of human thought lying in books. He cannot write to express his thought.

অনুবাদ : মানুষের দৃষ্টিশক্তি তার সবচেয়ে মূল্যবান সম্পদ। জীবনে অন্ধত্বের চেয়ে বড় দুর্ভাগ্য আর কিছু নেই। অন্ধ লোক প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য দেখতে পারে না। সে মনোহর প্রজাপতিকে দেখতে পারে না। গ্রন্থে লিপিবদ্ধ মানবিক চিন্তার অমূল্য সম্পদও সে আবিষ্কার করতে পারে না। তার চিন্তাধারাকে সে লিখে প্রকাশ করতে পারে না।

৯. A garden is not a source of beauty only. It is also a source of income to men. Men for their great love of flowers decorate their house with them on occations. Men love flowers, for they are the symbols of beauty and purity. A village home without any garden looks bare and poor.

অনুবাদ : বাগান কেবল সৌন্দর্যের উৎস নয়। এটা মানুষের আয়ের উৎসও বটে। ফুলের প্রতি অসীম ভালোবাসার জন্যই বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠান উপলক্ষ্যে তারা ফুল দিয়ে গৃহ সাজায়। ফুল সুন্দর ও পবিত্রতার প্রতীক বলে মানুষ ফুলকে ভালোবাসে । বাগানহীন গ্রামের বাড়ি রিক্ত ও শ্রীহীন দেখায়।

১০. A newspaper is a storehouse of knowledge. We can know the conditions, manners, customs of other countries of the world from a newspaper. In fact, it is the summary of all current history. We cannot think of modern life wihtout a newspaper.

অনুবাদ : সংবাদপত্র জ্ঞানের ভাণ্ডার। সংবাদপত্রের মাধ্যমে আমরা বিশ্বের অন্যান্য দেশের অবস্থা, আচার-আচরণ ও প্রথা সম্পর্কে জানতে পারি। প্রকৃতপক্ষে এটা চলিত ইতিহাসের একটি সার-সংক্ষেপ। সংবাদপত্রহীন আধুনিক জীবন আমরা চিন্তা করতে পারি না।

১১. A language never stands still. It is always changing and developing. Their changes were rapid in primitive societies; but slow in advanced ones because the invention of printing and the spread of education has fixed a traditional usage. The only important change that English has undergone since the sixteenth century is a very large increase in its vocabulary.

অনুবাদ : ভাষা কখনো নিশ্চল থাকে না। এটি সততই পরিবর্তনশীল ও বিকাশমান । প্রাচীন সমাজে ভাষার পরিবর্তনসমূহ ছিল ত্বরিত; তবে মুদ্রণের আবিষ্কার ও শিক্ষার প্রসার একটি গতানুগতিক ধারা নির্ধারণ করেছে বলে সমাজে এর বিকাশের গতি মন্থর । ইংরেজি ভাষায় ষােল শতক থেকে একমাত্র গুরুত্বপূর্ণ যে পরিবর্তনটি সাধিত হয়েছে সেটি হলো এর শব্দভান্ডারের ব্যাপক সমৃদ্ধি।

১২. All of us know that the eye of God is always upon us. But this knowledge does no good to us if we do not keep it in mind. Keeping it in mind, we cannot do any wrong. It always holds us back from sins. Thus it does much good to us.

অনুবাদ : আমরা সবাই জানি যে, সৃষ্টিকর্তার দৃষ্টি সর্বদা আমাদের ওপর রয়েছে। কিন্তু এ জ্ঞান আমাদের কোনো উপকারে আসে না যদি তা আমরা মনের মধ্যে ধারণ না করি। মনের মধ্যে এ জ্ঞান ধরে রাখলে আমরা কোনো অন্যায় করতে পারি না । এটি সর্বদাই আমাদেরকে পাপ থেকে দূরে রাখে । সুতরাং এটি আমাদের অনেক উপকার করে।

১৫. A truly active man always finds time for everything. He is never in a hurry and never behind hand. Such a man never spends a single moment for nothing. He never leaves a letter unanswered. He does not set his hand to at a time but when he once undertakes to do a thing, he does not rest till it is well finished.

অনুবাদ : একজন সত্যিকারের কর্মনিষ্ঠ ব্যক্তি সর্বদা প্রতিটি কাজ করার সময় পান। তিনি কখনো ব্যতিব্যস্ততায় থাকেন না এবং কখনো হাত গুটিয়ে বসে থাকেন না। এমন ব্যক্তি এক মুহূর্ত সময়ও অযথা ব্যয় করেন না। তিনি কখনোই কোনো কাজকে ভবিষ্যতের জন্য রেখে দেন না। তিনি একইসময়ে অসংখ্য কার্যে লিপ্ত হন না কিন্তু যখন তিনি কোনোকিছু করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। তখন তা ভালোভাবে সম্পন্ন না করা পর্যন্ত কোনো বিশ্রাম নেন না।

৩৪. A student is a learner. He must mind his studies first. He should go through with his home work and attend school regularly. A good student reads a lot even outside his prescribed texbooks. He loves knowledge for the sake of knowledge. He loves his teachers as his parents.

অনুবাদ : একজন ছাত্র হলো একজন শিক্ষার্থী। প্রথমেই তাকে পড়াশুনার কথা মনে রাখতে হবে । তার নিয়মিত বাড়ির কাজ করা ও বিদ্যালয়ে যাওয়া উচিত। একজন ভালো ছাত্র তার নির্ধারিত পাঠ্যপুস্তকের বাইরেও অনেক পড়াশুনা করে। সে জ্ঞানের জন্যই জ্ঞানকে ভালোবাসে। সে তার শিক্ষকগণকে তার পিতামাতার মতোই ভালোবাসে।

৩৫. Always speak the truth. Never tell a lie. Nobody believes a liar. Even if he speaks the truth, he is considered a liar. Nobody in the world is as unfortunate as he.

অনুবাদ : সদা সত্য কথা বলবে। কখনো মিথ্যা বলো না। মিথ্যাবাদীকে কেউ বিশ্বাস করে না। সে সত্য কথা বললেও মিথ্যাবাদী বলে বিবেচিত হয়। সংসারে তার মতো হতভাগ্য কেউ নেই।

৩৬. A patriot is a man who loves his country, works for it, and is willing to fight and die for it. Every soldier is bound to do his duty, but the best soldiers do more than this. They risk their lives because they love the country. They are the best friends of the people.

অনুবাদ : যিনি নিজের দেশকে ভালোবাসেন, দেশের জন্য কাজ করেন এবং দেশের জন্য যুদ্ধ করতে এবং জীবন দিতে চান তিনিই দেশপ্রেমিক। প্রত্যেক সৈনিক তার কর্তব্য সম্পাদনে বাধ্য কিন্তু শ্ৰেষ্ঠ সৈনিকরা এর চেয়ে বেশি কিছু করে থাকেন । দেশকে ভালোবাসেন বলেই তারা জীবনের ঝুঁকি নেন। তারা জনগণের সর্বোত্তম বন্ধু।

১৭. A good teacher is one of the most important people in any country. Bangladesh needs good teachers. A good teacher makes lessons interesting. He keeps pupils and students awake. He also makes them confident and proves them clever. Everybody has something valuable in him. A good teacher discovers the treasure hidden inside each student.

অনুবাদ: একজন ভালো শিক্ষক যেকোনো দেশের সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তিদের মধ্যে অন্যতম। বাংলাদেশে ভালো শিক্ষকের প্রয়োজন আছে। একজন ভালো শিক্ষক পাঠকে চিত্তাকর্ষক করে তোলেন। তিনি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের সজাগ রাখেন। তিনি তাদের আত্মবিশ্বাসী ও কুশলী করে তোলেন। প্রত্যেকের মাঝেই মূল্যবান কিছু সুপ্ত থাকে। একজন ভালো শিক্ষক প্রত্যেক ছাত্রের সুপ্ত প্রতিভার বিকাশ ঘটাতে পারেন ।

১৮. Books are always to be by your side. Some books make you laugh, some others may give you much pleasure, others again give you knowledge and new ideas. Through books we meet with the great souls of the past.

অনুবাদ : বই সর্বদাই তোমাদের পাশে থাকে। কিছু কিছু বই তোমাদের হাসির খোরাক যোগায়, কিছু কিছু বই প্রচুর আনন্দ দেয়, আবার কিছু কিছু বই তোমাদের জ্ঞান এবং নতুন নতুন ধারণা দেয় । বইয়ের মাধ্যমে অতীতের বড় বড় মনীষীদের সাথে আমাদের সাক্ষাৎ ঘটে ।

১৯. Books are men's best companion in life. You most have very good friends but you cannot get them when you need them. They may not speak gently to you. One or two may prove false and do your much harm. But books are always ready to be by your side. Some books may make you laugh. Some other may give you much pleasure.

অনুবাদ : বই মানুষের জীবনে সর্বোৎকৃষ্ট সঙ্গী । তোমার অবশ্যই অনেক ভালো বন্ধু আছে কিন্তু তোমার প্রয়োজনের সময় তাদের পাবে না। তারা তোমার সাথে ভদ্রভাবে কথা নাও বলতে পারে । দু'একজন মিথ্যা প্রমাণিত হতে পারে এবং তোমার অনেক ক্ষতিও করতে পারে । কিন্তু বই সর্বদাই তোমার পাশে থাকার জন্য প্রস্তুত। কিছু বই তোমাকে হাসাতে পারে। অন্য কিছু বই তোমাকে আনন্দ দিতে পারে।

২০. Books introduce us into the best society. They bring us into the presence of the greatest minds, that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did, we see them as if they were really alive. We are participaters in their thoughts. We sympathise with them. The great and good do not die even in this world.

অনুবাদ : বই আমাদের সর্বোকৃষ্ট সমাজের সঙ্গে পরিচিত করে। আমাদের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ মনের কাছাকাছি এনে দেয়, যারা অমর । তারা যা বলেছেন ও করেছেন তা আমরা শুনি। আমরা দেখি তারা যেন সত্যি বেঁচে আছেন। আমরা তাদের চিন্তার ফল গ্রহণ করি। আমরা তাদের প্রতি সহানুভূতিশীল হই । মহৎ ও উত্তম ব্যক্তিরা জগতে কখনো মৃত্যুবরণ করেন না।

২১. Bangladesh has its own National Flag. It stands for our sovereigny and is the symbol of our national pride and prestige. It is the symbol of our national hopes and ideals. All the Bangladeshies honour the National Flag. It is also honoured by the people of all other countries of the world as we do their National Flags.

অনুবাদ : বাংলাদেশের নিজস্ব জাতীয় পতাকা রয়েছে। এটি সার্বভৌমত্বের প্রতীক এবং আমাদের জাতীয় গৌরব ও মর্যাদার বিষয়। এটি আমাদের জাতীয় আশা-আকাঙ্ক্ষা এবং আদর্শের প্রতীক। সকল বাংলাদেশিই জাতীয় পতাকাকে সম্মান করে। বিশ্বের অন্যান্য দেশের জনগণও এর প্রতি সম্মান দেখায়, যেমনিভাবে আমরা তাদের জাতীয় পতাকাকে সম্মান করি।

২২. Bengali is our mother tongue, our state language and the language of our heart. It is our fundamental duty to learn to write and read this language correctly. We should make efforts for the all round development of this language. English is mostly used in the international level. We can't be acquainted with the knowledge of science of the western world without the knowledge of English. We should learn English properly even for the development of our mother tongue.

অনুবাদ : বাংলা আমাদের মাতৃভাষা, আমাদের রাষ্ট্র ভাষা ও প্রাণের ভাষা। এ ভাষা শুদ্ধভাবে লিখতে ও পড়তে শেখা আমাদের অবশ্য কর্তব্য। এ ভাষার সার্বিক উন্নতির জন্য আমাদের সচেষ্ট হওয়া উচিত। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্ষেত্রে ইংরেজি ভাষার ব্যবহার সর্বাধিক। ইংরেজি জ্ঞান ছাড়া আমরা পাশ্চাত্য জগতের জ্ঞান-বিজ্ঞানের সাথে পরিচিত হতে পারি না। এমনকি মাতৃভাষার উন্নতির জন্য আমাদের ইংরেজি ভাষা ভালোভাবে শেখা উচিত।

২৩. Begum Rokeya came of a very respectable family of Bangladesh. Her father's name is Jahiruddin Mohammad Abu Ali. At this point it is necessary to mention the names of two other persons. One is Rokeya's brother Abul Asad Ibrahim and the other is her elder sister Karimunnessa Khanam.

অনুবাদ : বেগম রোকেয়া বাংলাদেশের এক অতি সম্রান্ত পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তার পিতার নাম জহিরুদ্দিন মোহাম্মদ আবু আলী। এই প্রসঙ্গে আরও দুজন ব্যক্তির নাম উল্লেখ করা বিশেষ প্রয়োজন। একজন রোকেয়ার ভাই আবুল আসাদ ইব্রাহিম, অন্যজন তার বড় বোন করিমুন্নেসা খানম।।

২৪. Bangladesh is a land of rivers. The rivers fall into the Bay of Bengal. Many towns, ports and villages stand on both the sides of these rivers. In the rainy season, these rivers assume a terrible look but in winter they remain quite calm.

অনুবাদ : বাংলাদেশ একটি নদীমাতৃক দেশ। নদীগুলো বঙ্গোপসাগরে পতিত হয়। এই সমস্ত নদীর উভয় পাশে অনেক শহর, বন্দর এবং গ্রাম অবস্থিত। বর্ষাকালে এসব নদী ভয়ংকর রূপ ধারণ করে কিন্তু শীতকালে বেশ শান্ত থাকে।

২৫.. Black-marketing is a colossal crime against society. In our distressed conditions when we constantly face shortage of food and other essential commodities of life, a citizen who does black-marketing, commits a greater crime than the biggest and the most grievous of all crimes. These black-marketers are really knowing, intelligent and ordinarily responsible people. When they indulge in black- marketing, I think they ought to be severely punished, because they undermine the entire system of control.

অনুবাদ : কালোবাজারি সমাজ-বিরোধী এক বড় অপরাধ। আমাদের সংকটজনক অবস্থায় যখন আমরা খাদ্য ও জীবনধারণের অন্যান্য নিত্যপ্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসপত্রের অভাব অনুভব করি, সে সময়ে কোনো নাগরিক কালোবাজারি করলে সে সবচেয়ে বড় ও হীনতম অপরাধ সংঘটিত করে। এ কালোবাজারিরা আসলে শিক্ষিত, বুদ্ধিমান ও সাধারণত দায়িত্বশীল লোক। এরা যখন কালোবাজারিতে লিপ্ত হয়, আমি মনে করি তখন তাদের কঠোর শাস্তি প্রদান করা উচিত, কেননা তারা সমগ্র নিয়ন্ত্রণ ব্যবস্থাকে ক্রমান্বয়ে ধ্বংস করে ফেলে।

২৬. Bangladesh is now a free country. She suffered much during the last twenty five years. But for her, the days of suffering are over. She is going to enter into an age of great prosperity. The golden land of Bangladesh will again be flowing with milk and honey.

অনুবাদ : বাংলাদেশ এখন মুক্ত। গত ২৫ বছর সে খুব দুর্ভোগের মধ্যে ছিল। কিন্তু তার সে দুর্ভোগ এখন আর নেই। সে এখন অত্যন্ত উন্নতির দিকে ধাবিত হচ্ছে। সোনার বাংলাদেশ আবার ধনসম্পদে ভরে উঠবে।

২৭. Bangladesh is the land of our birth. The blue sky and the air of this land are very dear to us. It is our duty to build up our dear Bangladesh. It is our sacred duty. If we do our respective duties, only then our country will make progress.

অনুবাদ : বাংলাদেশ আমাদের জন্মভূমি। এদেশের নীল আকাশ আর নির্মল বাতাস আমাদের কাছে খুবই প্রিয়। আমাদের প্রিয় বাংলাদেশকে গড়ে তোলা আমাদেরই কর্তব্য। এটা আমাদের পবিত্র দায়িত্ব। আমরা আমাদের নিজ নিজ দায়িত্ব পালন করলে তবেই আমাদের দেশ উন্নত হবে।

২৯. Computer is the gift of modern science. It has helped our civilization to go a step further. It is now used in every sphere of our life. It has made our works easier and beautiful. But our opportunity to learn the art of using computer is very limited.

অনুবাদ : কম্পিউটার আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের দান। এটি আমাদের সভ্যতাকে আরও একধাপ এগিয়ে নিতে সহায়তা করেছে। এটি এখন আমাদের জীবনের প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হচ্ছে। এটা আমাদের কাজকে আরও সহজ ও সৌন্দর্যমণ্ডিত করে তুলেছে। কিন্তু কম্পিউটার ব্যবহারের কৌশল শেখার সুযোগ আমাদের অত্যন্ত সীমিত।

৩০. Cricket is an international game. The World Cup cricket is arranged after every four years. ICC arranges the World Cup Cricket. Bangladesh entered into the World Cup Cricket arena in 1999. The achievement of Bangladesh in the last World Cup Cricket is really a matter to remember. The popularity of this game is increasing day by day.

৩১. Can you say why Bangladesh came out victorious in this war? There are two reasons. First, the people of Bangladesh believed that they fought for freedom of the nation. They fought in the name of the freedom of our homeland Bangladesh. The Pakistanis were defeated because they wanted to take the country of others. Second, we had a very great leader.

অনুবাদ : বলতে পার কেন বাংলাদেশ এই যুদ্ধে বিজয়ী হয়েছিল? এর দুটি কারণ আছে। প্রথমত, বাংলাদেশের মানুষ বিশ্বাস করেছিল যে তারা জাতির স্বাধীনতার জন্য যুদ্ধ করছেন। তারা আমাদের মাতৃভূমি বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার নামে যুদ্ধ করেছিল। পাকিস্তানিরা পরাজিত হয়েছিল কারণ তারা অন্যের দেশ দখল করতে চেয়েছিল। দ্বিতীয়ত, আমাদের একজন মহান নেতা ছিল।

৩১. Determination and hardwork are the key to success in life. If we are determined to do anything and if we work hard to perform our duties, we are sure to achieve success in life.

অনুবাদ : দৃঢ় সংকল্প ও কঠোর পরিশ্রম জীবনে সাফল্যের চাবিকাঠি। যদি আমরা কোনো কিছু করার জন্য দৃঢ় প্রতিজ্ঞ হই এবং কর্তব্য সম্পাদনে কঠোরভাবে কাজ করি, তাহলে আমরা জীবনে নিশ্চিতভাবে সাফল্য অর্জন করব।

৩২. Dishonest men may seem to prosper and go undetected but it is only for a short time. Dishonesty is sure to be detected in the long run and follow punishment and disgrace. Honesty is, therefore, the best policy.

অনুবাদ : মনে হতে পারে অসৎ লোক উন্নতি করছে এবং ধরা পড়ছে না, কিন্তু তা ক্ষণিকের জন্য। অসততা শেষ পর্যন্ত ধরা পড়বেই এবং তার শাস্তি এবং অপমান নিশ্চিত। সুতরাং সততাই সর্বোকৃষ্ট পন্থা।

৩৩. Education is the backbone of a nation. No progress can be possible without education. Ignorances is like darkness. So the light of education is necessary for society. Everybody will have to appreciate this truth. Students must be conscious of their responsibility. Otherwise the nation will not be able to see the light of hope and prosperity.

অনুবাদ : শিক্ষাই জাতির মেরুদণ্ড। শিক্ষা ছাড়া কোনো উন্নতি সম্ভব নয়। অজ্ঞতা আঁধার তুল্য। তাই সমাজের জন্য শিক্ষ আলো প্রয়োজন। এ সত্য সকলকে উপলব্ধি করতে হবে। শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে তাদের দায়িত্ব সম্পর্কে সচেতন হতে হবে। নতুবা জাতি আশা ও প্রগতির আলো দেখতে পাবে না।

৩৪. Education is not only limited to schools, colleges and universities. We have learnt a lot from family, society and the whole world. Which we learn from our real experience of life is no less important than that we lean traditionally from schools and the colleges. Therefore, it can be said that education is a life long process. This education begings from our birth and ends with our death.

অনুবাদ : শিক্ষা কেবল স্কুল, কলেজ এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়েই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়। পরিবার, সমাজ আর সমগ্র বিশ্বের কাছ থেকে আর অনেক কিছু শিখছি। জীবনের বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে আমরা যে শিক্ষা পেয়ে থাকি, প্রথাগতভাবে স্কুল ও কলেজে প্রাপ্ত শিক্ষ চেয়ে তা কম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নয়। কাজেই বলা চলে, শিক্ষা জীবনব্যাপী এক ধারাবাহিক প্রক্রিয়া মাত্র। এই শিক্ষা আমাদের জন্মল থেকে আরম্ভ হয়, আর তার পরিসমাপ্তি ঘটে মৃত্যুতে।

৩৫. Flood is a natural calamity. Every year Bangladesh falls a victim to flood. During flood men and other animals suffer from miseries with beggar description. Crops are also damaged to a great extent. After flood various diseases like Diarrhoea and Cholera break out in an epidemic form. So, flood is a dangerous problem of our country. Government is trying to solve this problem.

অনুবাদ : বন্যা একটি প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ। বাংলাদেশ প্রতিবছর বন্যার কবলে পড়ে। বন্যার সময় মানুষ ও অন্যান্য প্রাণী অবর্ণনীয় দুঃখকষ্ট ভোগ করে। ফসলেরও ব্যাপক ক্ষতি হয়। বন্যার পর উদরাময় ও কলেরার ন্যায় নানা প্রকার রোগ মহামারি আকারে দেখা দেয়। কাজেই বন্যা আমাদের দেশে একটি মারাত্মক সমস্যা। সরকার এই সমস্যা সমাধানের চেষ্টা করছে।

৩৬. God has not created us to eat, drink and be merry, but to earn bread by the sweat of our brow. There should be no dearth of work in our country. When we have sixteen crores of living machines, why should we depened upon the dead ones? I saw that each of us must work eight hours a day. Nobody becomes a slave by working. Just as we do not become slaves of our parents at home when we carry out their instructions, so the question of slavery should not arise at all when students work accoding to the direction of their teachers.

অনুবাদ : কেবল খাওয়া, পান করা আর ফুর্তির জন্যই স্রষ্টা আমাদের সৃষ্টি করেননি; বরং মাথার ঘাম পায়ে ফেলে রুজি রোজগারের জন্য সৃষ্টি করেছেন। আমাদের দেশে কাজের কোনো অভাব থাকতে পারে না। যেখানে আমাদের ষােল কোতি জীবন্ত যন্ত্র আছে, সেখানে কেন প্রাণহীন যন্ত্রের ওপর নির্ভর করব? আমি বলি আমরা প্রত্যেকে প্রতিদিন অবশ্যই আট ঘণ্টা কাজ করব। কাজ করলে কেউ দাস হয়ে যায় না। গৃহে পিতামাতার নির্দেশে কাজ করলে আমরা যেমন তাদের দাস হয়ে যাই, তেমনই শিক্ষকগণের নির্দেশানুসারে কাজ করলে ছাত্রদের দাস হয়ে যাওয়ার প্রশ্নই ওঠে না।

৩৭. He who loves his country is a patriot. The patriots love their country more dearly than their own lives. They are ready to lay down their lives for the welfare of their country. Everybody honours them. They live even after their death.

অনুবাদ : যে তার দেশকে ভালোবাসে সেই দেশপ্রেমিক। দেশপ্রেমিকেরা দেশকে তাদের জীবনের চেয়েও ভালোবাসে। নিজের দেশের কল্যাণার্থে তারা জীবন দিতেও প্রস্তুত। সবাই তাদেরকে সম্মান করে। তারা মৃত্যুর পরও জীবিত থাকে।

৩৮. Honesty is the best policy. An honest man is respected by all. Everyone trusts him. No one can prosper in life if he is not honest. An honest shopkeeper is liked very much by his customers. All go to his shop and buy things from him. They begin to trust him. His credit grows and his business flourishes.

অনুবাদ : সততা সর্বোৎকৃষ্ট পন্থা । সৎলোক সবার নিকট সম্মানিত হন। প্রত্যেকেই তাকে বিশ্বাস করে । সৎ না হলে কেউ জীবনে উন্নতি করতে পারে না। একজন সৎ দোকানদারকে ক্রেতারা খুবই পছন্দ করে। সবাই তার দোকানে যায় এবং তার কাছ থেকে দ্রব্য ক্রয় করে। তারা তাকে বিশ্বাস করতে শুরু করে। তার আয় বাড়ে ও ব্যবসায় উন্নতি হয়।

৩৯. Hazrat Omar (R) was famous for his simplicity. He never considered himself a great or rich man. He always led a simple life. He used to take coarse bread and dates. Often people from abroad came and asked him, 'Where is the Chalipha?'

অনুবাদ : হযরত ওমর (রা.) তাঁর সরলতার জন্য খ্যাতিমান ছিলেন। তিনি নিজেকে কখনো মহৎ বা ধনী মনে করতেন না। তিনি সবসময় অতি সাধারণ জীবনযাপন করতেন। তিনি মোটা রুটি ও খেজুর খেতেন। অনেক সময় বিদেশি লোকজন এসে তাঁকে জিজ্ঞেস করত, ‘খলিফা কোথায়?

৪০. Home is the first school where the child learns his first lessons. The first lessons are very important for the developemnt of his mind. He sees, hears and begins to learn at home. It is home that builds his character. In a good home honest and healthy men are made.

অনুবাদ : গৃহ শিশুর প্রথম পাঠশালা যেখানে সে তার প্রথম পাঠ শেখে। তার মানসিক উন্নয়নে এই প্রথম পাঠ অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। সে দেখে, শোনে এবং এভাবেই গৃহে শিখতে আরম্ভ করে। গৃহ হচ্ছে সেই জায়গা যা তার চরিত্র গঠন করে। এটি আদর্শ গৃহেই সৎ ও স্বাস্থ্যবান মানুষ তৈরি করে।

৪১. Health is wealth. The sound condition of body means health. A good health is a guarantee for happiness. A healthy poor man is more happy than a sick wealthy man. A healthy man is an asset to his family. A sick man on the other hand, is liability to all.

অনুবাদ : স্বাস্থ্যই সম্পদ। শারীরিক সুস্থতার নামই স্বাস্থ্য। ভালো স্বাস্থ্য সুখের নিশ্চয়তা। একজন স্বাস্থ্যবান মানুষ তার পরিবারের সম্পদ। পক্ষান্তরে, রুগ্ণ ব্যক্তি সকলের কাছে বোঝাস্বরূপ।

৪২. It was the 16th December, 1971. On that day the Pakistani soldiers surrendered the arms. It will go down in history as a memorable day. Seventy million people of Bangladesh achieved freedom after nine months' struggle. The man who deserves the greatest credit for this is Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

অনুবাদ : এটা ছিল ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬ই ডিসেম্বর। সেদিন পাকিস্তানি সৈন্যরা অস্ত্র সমর্পণ করেছিল। এটি ইতিহাসে স্মরণীয় হয়ে থাকবে। বাংলাদেশের সাত কোটি মানুষ নয় মাস যুদ্ধ করে স্বাধীনতা অর্জন করে। এজন্য যিনি সবচেয়ে বড় কৃতিত্বের দাবিদার তিনি হলেন বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান।

৪৩. In ancient time, men were very helpless. There was not much difference between them and the beasts. They were constantly in fear on account of the wild animals. They did not know how to build houses and make their dresses. They passed the nights in trees and in caves.

অনুবাদ : আদিকালে মানুষ খুবই অসহায় ছিল। তাদের সঙ্গে পশুর তেমন পার্থক্য ছিল না। বন্যপ্রাণীর ভয়ে তারা সর্বদা ভীত ছিল। তারা বাড়ি এবং তাদের পোশাক তৈরি করতে জানত না। তারা গাছের নিচে ও গুহায় রাতযাপন করত।

৪৪. It is impossible to describe the beauty of the Taj Mahal in words. It has been called a 'dream in marble' and 'a tear drop on the forehead of time' but the fairest phrases fail to do justice to the surpassing creation of art. The Taj Mahal is best seen by moonlight when the dazzling white of the marble is mellowed into a dreamy softness. The most charming view, perhaps, is obtained from the palace on the opposite bank of the river.

অনুবাদ : তাজমহলের সৌন্দর্য ভাষায় বর্ণনা করা অসম্ভব । এটাকে বলা হয়ে থাকে, মার্বেল পাথরের স্বপ্ন এবং কালের কপোলে এক ফোটা অশ্রু’; কিন্তু এ চমৎকার শব্দগুচ্ছও অনন্য শিল্প সৃষ্টির যথাযথ মর্যাদা নিরূপণে ব্যর্থ। জ্যোৎস্নারাতে যখন মার্বেল পাথরের চোখ-ধাঁধানো শুভ্রতা স্বপ্নময় কোমলতায় আবিষ্ট হয় তখনই সবচেয়ে ভালোভাবে তাজমহল অবলোকন করাযায়। সম্ভবত সবচেয়ে চমৎকার শোভা দেখতে পাওয়া যায় নদীর বিপরীত তীরের প্রাসাদ থেকে

৪৫. It is not possible to acquire proper knowledge on any subject without studying well. Indeed, to pass some how in the examination needs no profound knowledge. To select a few questions and memorise them is enough. But what is the use of passing like this? We should remember that to get certificates from a board or a university and to acquire perfect knowledge is not same.

অনুবাদ : ভালোভাবে পড়াশুনা না করলে কোনো বিষয়ে সঠিক জ্ঞান লাভ করা সম্ভব নয়। অবশ্য পরীক্ষায় কোনোমতে পাশ করার জন্য গভীর জ্ঞানের প্রয়োজন হয় না। বেছে বেছে গুটিকয়েক প্রশ্নের উত্তর মুখস্থ করলেই চলে। কিন্তু এভাবে পাশ করে লাভ কী? মনে রাখতে হবে বোর্ডে বা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে সনদপত্র পাওয়া ও প্রকৃত জ্ঞানার্জন এক জিনিস নয়।

৪৬. Illiteracy is a great problem of our country. No development efforts can succeed unless illiteracy is eradicated. Eradication of illiteracy in a country like Bangladesh with so vast population is undoubtedly a gigantic task. No individual community, organization not even the government is capable of solving this huge problem in a single hand. It is the social responsibility of all the literate people to make some concerted efforts to remove illiteracy from the country.

অনুবাদ : নিরক্ষরতা আমাদের দেশের একটি ভয়াবহ সমস্যা। নিরক্ষরতা দূরীকরণ ব্যতীত কোনো উন্নয়নমূলক কাজই ফলপ্রসূ হতে পারে না। বাংলাদেশের মতো একটি জনবহুল দেশ থেকে নিরক্ষরতা দূরীকরণ নিঃসন্দেহে একটি বৃহৎ কাজ। কোনো পৃথক গোষ্ঠী, সংস্থা, এমনকি সরকারের পক্ষে এককভাবে এ বিরাট সমস্যার সমাধান করা সম্ভব নয়। দেশ থেকে নিরক্ষরতা দূর করার জন্য কিছু সমন্বিত পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করা শিক্ষিত লোকদের একটি সামাজিক দায়িত্ব।

৪৭. In the modern world women have proved that they can go ahead with men shoulder to shoulder. It is not than their only duty is to serve as a mother and wife. They have many things to do. There remain many ways open for them. They can work in offices, schools, colleges and universities. They have formed a great asset for the nation.

অনুবাদ : আধুনিক বিশ্বে মহিলারা প্রমাণ করেছে যে, তারা পুরুষের সাথে কাঁধে কাঁধ মিলিয়ে সামনের দিকে এগিয়ে যেতে পারে। শুধু মা ও স্ত্রী হিসেবে কাজ করাই তাদের একমাত্র কর্তব্য নয়। তাদের অনেক কিছু করার আছে। তাদের জন্য অনেক পথ খোলা রয়েছে। তারা অফিস, স্কুল, কলেজ এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে কাজ করতে পারে। জাতির জন্য তারা এক বিশাল সম্পদ তৈরি করেছে ।

৪৮. Knowledge is vaster than ocean. The more we gather knowledge, the more our thirst for it increases. So any kind of restriction on the pursuit of knowledge is not at all desirable. Everybody has the right to walk freely in the ocean of knowledge.

অনুবাদ : জ্ঞান মহাসাগরের চেয়েও বিশাল। আমরা যতই জ্ঞান আহরণ করি আমাদের জ্ঞানতৃষ্ণা ততই বেড়ে যায়। সুতরং জ্ঞানার্জনের ক্ষেত্রে কোনোরকম প্রতিবন্ধকতা মোটেই বাঞ্ছনীয় নয়। প্রত্যেকেরই জ্ঞানসমুদ্রে অবাধে বিচরণের অধিকার রয়েছে।

৪৯. Liberty does not descend upon a nation; a nation must raise them selves to it. It is a fruit that must be earned before it can be enjoyed. That freedom means freedom only from foreign rule is an outworn idea. It is not merely government that should be free, but people themselves should be free. And no freedom has any real value for the common man or woman unless it also means freedom from want, disease and ignorance.

অনুবাদ : স্বাধীনতা কোনো জাতির ওপর নেমে আসে না; জাতিকে স্বাধীনতার পর্যায়ে উন্নীত হতে হয়। এটি এমন একটি ফল, যা ভোগ করার পূর্বে অর্জন করতে হয়। স্বাধীনতা অর্থ বিদেশি শাসন থেকে মুক্তি—এটি একটি সেকেলে ধারণা। শুধু সরকার স্বাধীন হলেই চলবে না, জনসাধারণকেও স্বাধীন হতে হবে। স্বাধীনতা যদি অভাব, রোগ ও অজ্ঞতা থেকে মুক্তি না বোঝায় তবে সাধারণ নর-নারীর কাছে সে স্বাধীনতার প্রকৃত মূল্য নেই।

৫০. Many people put off for tomorrow the work they can do today. Students also very often put off their class lessons for tomorrow. Nothing is more injurious than this habit. Men do not know what will happen tomorrow. A lot of troubles and dangers may come and upset everything.

অনুবাদ : অনেক লোক আজ যে কাজ করতে পারে তা আগামীকালের জন্য ফেলে রাখে। শিক্ষার্থীরাও প্রায়ই তাদের ক্লাসের পড়া আগামীকালের জন্য রেখে দেয়। এই অভ্যাসের চেয়ে ক্ষতিকর আর কিছুই নেই। আগামীকাল কী হবে তা মানুষ জানে না। অনেক ঝঞাট ও বিপদ এসে সবকিছু বিপর্যস্ত করে ফেলতে পারে

৫১. Man is the architect of his own life. If he makes a proper division of his time and does his duties accordingly, he is sure to prosper in life. But if he does otherwise, he is sure to repent when it is too late and he will have to drag a miserable existence from day to day.

অনুবাদ : মানুষ নিজেই তার জীবনের স্থপতি। সে যদি তার সময়কে যথাযথ ভাগ করে নেয় এবং সেই অনুসারে কাজ করে তবে সে নিশ্চিতভাবে জীবনে উন্নতি লাভ করবে। কিন্তু সে যদি অন্যথা করে তবে দেরিতে হলেও তাকে অবশ্যই অনুতা করতে হবে এবং দিনের পর দিন তাকে শোচনীয় জীবনের ঘানি টেনে যেতে হবে।

৫২. Man has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He is not ever satisfied with what he had known and seen. He wants to know and see more and more. This curisity to know more coupled with his indomitable spirit of adventure, has inspired him to undertake and carry out difficult and dangerous tasks. In the fields of science and technology, man has already achieved what was once inconceivable.

অনুবাদ : জ্ঞানের জন্য মানুষের একটা অতৃপ্ত পিপাসা আছে। সে যা জেনেছে এবং দেখেছে তা নিয়ে সে কখনো তৃপ্ত নয়। সে আরও বেশি বেশি জানতে এবং দেখতে চায়। এ অধিকতর জানার কৌতূহল অদম্য দুর্দমনীয় স্পৃহার সঙ্গে যুক্ত হয়ে দুরূহ এবং বিপজ্জনক কার্যাদি গ্রহণ ও পরিচালনা করতে তাকে অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে। এককালে যা ছিল ধারণার অতীত বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি ক্ষেত্রে মানুষ তা ইতোমধ্যেই অর্জন করে ফেলেছে।

৫৩. Modern science is teaching us that none can live alone. Co-operation between individuals, and then between families, was essential to the life of man when he competed with animals of field and forests. Still greater cooperation between nations is essential to his continued life on earth. Now, individuals and people who are not always in line with the great forward movements in the evolutionery trend are doomed to die.

অনুবাদ: কেউ একা বাঁচতে পারে না, আধুনিক বিজ্ঞান এ শিক্ষাই আমাদের দেয়। প্রান্তর ও অরণ্যের প্রাণীদের সমে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় নেমে মানবজীবনের জন্য ব্যক্তিতে ব্যক্তিতে ও পরিবারে পরিবারে সহযোগিতার প্রয়োজন পড়ে। পৃথিবীর বুকে অবিচ্ছিন্ন ধারার জীবনের জন্য জাতিতে জাতিতে বৃহত্তর সহযোগিতার দরকার। তাই ব্যক্তি ও জনগণ যদি সবসময় বিবর্ত ধারার মহান প্রগতিশীল আন্দোলনের সঙ্গে এক সারিতে মিলিত না হয় তবে তাদের ধ্বংস অনিবার্য।

৫৪. Man is the best of creation. Allah has given men some noble virtues. Kindness is one of them. Allah is kind to him, who is kind to others. Everyone should practise this noble virtue and be kind to others. Without kindness a man cannot attain perfection.

অনুবাদ : মানুষ সৃষ্টির সেরা। আল্লাহ মানুষকে কিছু মহৎ গুণ দিয়েছেন। দয়া তার মধ্যে অন্যতম। যে ব্যক্তি অন্যের প্রতি সদয় হয় আল্লাহ তার প্রতি সদয় হন। সবাইকে এ মহৎ গুণের চর্চা করা এবং অপরের প্রতি সদয় থাকা উচিত। দয়া ছাড়া কোনো মানুষ পরিপূর্ণতা অর্জন করতে পারে না।

৫৫. Most of the people who appear immortal in history are great conquerors. It is strange enough that the people who really helped civilization go forward are not often mentioned at all. Really civilized people are those who have brought peace and happiness to mankind. They are truly great because instead of inflicting pain and hardship upon mankind they have healed their wounds.

অনুবাদ : ইতিহাসে যারা অমর হয়ে আছেন তাদের অধিকাংশই বিখ্যাত বিজয়ী। সত্যিই অদ্ভুত ব্যাপার, যারা সভ্যতাকে এগিয়ে নিতে সাহায্য করেছেন তাদের কথা প্রায়ই ইতিহাসে লেখা হয় না। প্রকৃত সভ্য মানুষ তারাই, যারা মানবজাতির জন্য সুখ ও শান্তি বয়ে এনেছেন। তারা প্রকৃতই মহৎ যেহেতু তারা মানুষকে কষ্ট ও যন্ত্রণা দেওয়ার পরিবর্তে তাদের দুঃখ ও দুর্দশা দূর করেছেন। .

৫৬. Many people put off for tomorrow the work they can do today. Students also very often put off their class lessons for tomorrow. Nothing is more injurious than this habit. Men do not know what will happen tomorrow. This is why it is wise to value the present moments to make our life meaningful. A lot of troubles and dangers may come and upset everything. So, we must not neglect out time, the flowing capital.

অনুবাদ : অনেক লোক যে কাজ আজ করতে পারে তা আগামীকালের জন্য তারা রেখে দেয়। ছাত্ররাও অনেক সময় তাদের ক্লাসের পড়া আগামীকালের জন্য ফেলে রাখে। এ অভ্যাসের চেয়ে ক্ষতিকর আর কিছু নেই। মানুষ জানে না আগামীকাল কী ঘটবে। অনেক অসুবিধা ও বিপদ আসতে পারে এবং সব এলোমেলো করে দিতে পারে। তাই সময়ের গুরুত্ব অনুধাবন করে আমাদের সময়কে অবজ্ঞা করা উচিত নয়।

৫৭. No man can live alone. When we are children, the family protects us. When we grow up, we need the help of all the people around us. If we try to live alone, our lives are like those of animals. Our fathers and mothers, our teachers, our government and all train us to do our duty.

অনুবাদ : কোনো মানুষ একাকী বাস করতে পারে না। যখন আমরা শিশু তখন পরিবার আমাদের প্রতিপালন করে। যখন আমরা বড় হই, তখন আমাদের চারপাশের লোকজনের সাহায্য দরকার হয়। আমরা যদি একাকী বাস করার চেষ্টা করি, তবে আমাদের জীবন পশুর জীবনের মতোই হয়ে ওঠে । আমাদের পিতামাতা, শিক্ষক, সরকার এবং সবাই আমাদের কর্তব্য পালনের শিক্ষা দেয় ।

৫৮. Our country is full of human resource. Along with the natural resources this human resource is a blessing for us but we do not utilize this resource properly. The progress and prosperity of the nation depend on the best use of them. So it is high time we thought of our well being.

অনুবাদ : আমাদের দেশটি মানব সম্পদে পরিপূর্ণ। প্রাকৃতিক সম্পদের পাশাপাশি এ মানব সম্পদ আমাদের জন্য আশীর্বাদস্বরূপ, কিন্তু আমরা এ সম্পদ-এর সদ্ব্যবহার করছি না। তাদের যথার্থ ব্যবহারের ওপরই নির্ভর করে আমাদের জাতীয় উন্নতি ও অগ্রগতি । তাই এটাই সময় নিজেদের ভালোটা নিয়ে ভাবার।

৫৯. One can become successful in work if one tries. God helps him who tries himself. We learn this lesson from the life-stories of those who have become great in the world. Be it learning or wealth, nobody can achieve it without trying himself. We should remember this truth.

অনুবাদ : চেষ্টা করলে কাজে সফল হওয়া যায়। যে স্বয়ং চেষ্টা করে আল্লাহ তার সহায় হন। পৃথিবীতে যারা বড় হয়েছেন তাদের জীবনী থেকে আমরা এ শিক্ষাই পেয়ে থাকি। বিদ্যাই হোক, আর ধনই হোক, স্বয়ং চেষ্টা না করলে কেউ তা লাভ করতে পারে না। এ কথাটি আমাদের স্মরণ রাখা উচিত।

৬০. Our total environment influences our life and our way of living. The main elements of our human environment are men, animals, plants, soil, air and water. There are relationships between these elements. When these relationships are disturbed, life becomes difficult or impossible.

অনুবাদ : আমাদের সামগ্রিক পরিবেশ আমাদের জীবন ও জীবনধারণ পদ্ধতিকে প্রভাবিত করে। আমাদের মানবিক পরিবেশের উপাদানসমূহ হলো মানুষ, পশু, গাছপালা, মাটি, বাতাস এবং পানি। এসব উপাদানের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক রয়েছে। যখন এ সম্পর্কের বিচ্যুতি ঘটে তখন জীবন কঠিন কিংবা অসম্ভব হয়ে পড়ে।

৬১. Our manpower is a great resource. But like land and water we must use it properly. The water of canal is of no use. It must come to everyone, who is thirsty and every paddy field that looks dry. So, we must have the right people in the right places.

অনুবাদ : আমাদের জনশক্তি এক বিরাট সম্পদ। কিন্তু ভূমি এবং পানির মতো আমাদেরকে অবশ্যই এর সঠিক ব্যবহার করতে হবে। খালের পানির ব্যবহার হচ্ছে না। তৃষ্ণার্ত ব্যক্তির নিকট এবং শুষ্ক ধানখেতে এর ব্যবহার ঘটাতে হবে। সুতরাং আমাদেরকে অবশ্যই সঠিক জায়গায় সঠিক লোক নিয়োগ দিতে হবে।

৬২. Punctuality is to be cultivated and formed into a habit. This quality is to be acquired through all our works from our boyhood. Boyhood is the seed-time. The habit formed at this time will continue all through our life. 'Everything at the right time' should be our motto.

অনুবাদ : নিয়মানুবর্তিতাকে চর্চার মাধ্যমে অভ্যাসে পরিণত করতে হবে। শৈশব থেকে সব কাজের মাধ্যমে এ গুণটি অর্জন করতে হয় । শৈশব হচ্ছে বীজ বপনের সময়। এ সময়ে যে অভ্যাস গড়ে ওঠে, তা আমাদের সারা জীবন ধরে চলতে থাকবে । আমাদের লক্ষ হওয়া উচিত, ‘ঠিক সময় সবকিছু করা।

৬৩. Parents are the source of our life on earth. It is they who have brought us in the world. They have brought us up in our childhood. They look after us from our infancy with greatest care and love. Without their loving care our existence on earth would be impossible.

অনুবাদ : মাতাপিতা হলেন পৃথিবীতে আমাদের জীবনের উৎস। তাঁরাই আমাদেরকে পৃথিবীতে এনেছেন। তাঁরা বাল্যকালে আমাদের লালন-পালন করেছেন। শৈশব থেকে গভীর যত্ন ও স্নেহ দিয়ে তারা আমাদের দেখাশোনা করেছেন। তাঁদের স্নেহ-যত্ন ছাড়া পৃথিবীতে আমাদের অস্তিত্ব টিকে থাকা অসম্ভব হতো।

৬৪. Poverty is a great problem in our country. But we hardly realise that this miserable condition is our creation. Many do not try to better their condition by hard labour and profitable business. They only curse their fate. We must shake off this in activity and aversion to physical labour. Man is the maker of his own fortune.

অনুবাদ : দারিদ্র্য আমাদের দেশের একটি বিরাট সমস্যা। কিন্তু আমরা খুব কমই উপলব্ধি করি যে, এই শোচনীয় অবস্থা আমাদের নিজেদের সৃষ্টি। অনেকেই কঠোর পরিশ্রম ও লাভজনক ব্যবসায়ের মাধ্যমে নিজেদের অবস্থার উন্নয়নের চেষ্টা করে না। তারা কেবল নিজের ভাগ্যকে অভিশাপ দেয়। আমরা অবশ্যই এই অক্ষমতা ও শ্রমবিমুখতা ত্যাগ করব। মানুষ নিজেই নিজের ভাগ্য-স্রষ্টা।

৬৫. Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Sm.) was born in 570 AD. His father had died before he was born. Hazrat Muhammad (Sm.) lost his mother too in his childhood. Hazrat Muhammad (Sm.) was called Al-Amin as he was truthful from his very boyhood.

অনুবাদ : মহানবি হযরত মুহম্মদ (স) ৫৭০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তার জন্মের পূর্বেই তার পিতা মারা যান । হযরত মুহম্মদ (স) শৈশবকালে তার মাকেও হারান। বাল্যকাল থেকেই মুহম্মদ (স) সত্যবাদী ছিলেন বলে তাঁকে ‘আল-আমিন' বলা হতো।

৬৬. Prosperity of a country cannot be achieved without patriotism. Mere talk about patriotism will not do. One should love the country in the true sense of the term and all will have to work for her. It is then and then only that the condition of the country can be improved.

অনুবাদ : দেশপ্রেম ছাড়া কোনো দেশের উন্নতি লাভ করা যায় না। কেবল কথায় দেশপ্রেম হয় না। সত্যিকার অর্থে দেশকে ভালোবাসা উচিত এবং সকলকে এর জন্য কাজ করা উচিত। তখন এবং কেবল তখনই দেশের অবস্থার উন্নতি হতে পারে।

৬৭. Reading books is an excellent habit. Books enrich the store of knowledge of a man and fulfil his life. All the developed nations read books. Still we are not much interested in reading books. So, we are still in darkness.

অনুবাদ : বই পড়া একটি ভালো অভ্যাস। বই একজন মানুষের জ্ঞান ভাণ্ডারকে সমৃদ্ধ করে এবং তার জীবনকে পূর্ণতা দান করে । সকল উন্নত জাতিই বই পড়ে। আমরা এখনো বই পড়তে ততটা আগ্রহী নই। তাই এখনো আমরা অন্ধকারে আছি।

৬৮. Religion is a necessity. Man is by nature religious. It is a great necessity for his spiritual existence. Without religion, a man can be turned a beast. An irreligious man is not better than a lower animal.

অনুবাদ : ধর্ম অপরিহার্য। মানুষ স্বভাবতই ধার্মিক। তার আধ্যাত্মিক অস্তিত্বের জন্য এর খুবই প্রয়োজন । ধর্মহীন মানুষ পশুতে পরিণত হতে পারে । অধার্মিক ব্যক্তি নিম্ন শ্রেণির প্রাণীর চেয়েও উত্তম নয়।

৬৯. Rabindranath Tagore won the Nobel Prize in 1913. He won this prize for the English translation of the Bengali 'Gitanjoli'. He himself did this excellent translation. There is 103 songs in the English Gitanjoli. Rabindranath Tagore made Bengali literature well-known in the world literature.

অনুবাদ : রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ১৯১৩ সালে নোবেল পুরস্কার লাভ করেন। তিনি এ পুরস্কার পান বাংলা গীতাঞ্জলির ইংরেজি অনুবাদের জন্য। এই চমৎকার অনুবাদ তিনি নিজেই করেন। ইংরেজি গীতাঞ্জলিতে ১০৩টি কাব্য আছে। রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর বাংলা সাহিত্যকে বিশ্ব সাহিত্যের দরবারে সুপরিচিত করে তোলেন।

৭০. Students have youth and energy. They are filled with ideals. They are free from maintaining families. So it is easy for them to devote themselves to social service. Students of today will lead the nation tomorrow.

অনুবাদ : শিক্ষার্থীদের রয়েছে তারুণ্য ও উদ্যম। তাদের মন আদর্শে ভরপুর। তারা সংসারিক দায়-দায়িত্ব থেকে মুক্ত। তাই সামাজিক কর্মকাণ্ডে আত্মনিয়োগ করা তাদের পক্ষে সহজ। আজকের শিক্ষার্থীরাই আগামীতে দেশের নেতৃত্ব দেবে।

৭১. Students very often put off their lessons for tomorrow. Nothing is more injurious than this habit. Men do not know what will happen tomorrow. A lot of troubles and danger may come and upset everything.

অনুবাদ : ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা প্রায়ই আগামীকালের জন্য তাদের পড়াশুনা ফেলে রাখে। এর চেয়ে ক্ষতিকর আর কোনো অভ্যাস নেই। আগামীকাল কী ঘটবে মানুষ তা জানে না। বহুবিধ সমস্যা ও বিপদ আসতে পারে এবং সবকিছু ওলট-পালট করে দিতে পারে।

৭২. Surely reading book is an excellent habit. To speak the truth, there is no alternative to it. Books can make us travel to many wonderful countries. Read books and learn to know the unknown. Yet many persons cannot realize the importance of studying books. Now-a-days even students do not show sufficient interest in reading books.

অনুবাদ : সুনিশ্চিতভাবে বই পড়া একটি চমৎকার অভ্যাস। সত্যি কথা বলতে কী এর কোনো বিকল্প নেই। বই আমাদের অনেক বিস্ময়কর দেশে ভ্রমণ করাতে পারে। বই পড় এবং অজানাকে জানতে শিখ। তবুও অনেকে বই পড়ার গুরুত্ব বুঝতে পারে না। আজকাল ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরাও বই পড়ার প্রতি যথেষ্ট আগ্রহ দেখায় না।

৭৩. Smoking is a dangerous bad habit. People addicted to smoking might become victim of caner. And that cancer is a fatal disease needs no telling. So a vigorous campaign against smoking is a crying need. Medical men with their superior knowledge of the dangers of smoking should be the leaders of the campaign. They should come forward.

অনুবাদ : ধূমপান একটি বিপজ্জনক বদভ্যাস। ধূমপানে আসক্ত লোকেরা ক্যান্সারের শিকার হতে পারে। আর ক্যান্সার যে একটি মারাত্মক ব্যাধি তা বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না। তাই ধূমপানের বিরুদ্ধে সর্বাত্মক অভিযান একান্ত প্রয়োজন। ধূমপানের বিপদগুলো সম্পর্কে সর্বাধিক জ্ঞান রাখেন যে চিকিৎসকগণ তাদেরই এ অভিযানে নেতৃত্ব দান করতে হবে। তাদের এগিয়ে আসা উচিত।

৭৪. Self-reliance means depending on one's own self. It is a great virtue. Self-help is the best help. God helps those who help themselves. So everybody must rely on his own abilities to be self-reliant. A self-reliant man has confidence in his own abilities.

অনুবাদ : স্বনির্ভরতা বলতে বোঝায় নিজের ওপর নির্ভর করা। এটা একটি মহৎ গুণ। স্বাবলম্বনই শ্রেষ্ঠ অবলম্বন। বিধাতা তাদের সাহায্য করেন, যারা নিজেদের সাহায্য করে। স্বনির্ভর হওয়ার জন্য প্রত্যেককে নিজ সামর্থ্যের ওপর নির্ভর করতে হবে। একজন আত্মনির্ভরশীল ব্যক্তির তার নিজের যোগ্যতার ওপর আস্থা থাকে। ৭৫. Students have youth and energy. They are filled with high ideals. They are free from the responsibility of maintaining families. So it is easy for them to devote themselves to social service besides their normal duty of acquiring knowledge.

অনুবাদ : ছাত্রদের আছে যৌবন ও শক্তি। তাদের মন উচ্চ আদর্শে পরিপূর্ণ। তারা পরিবার প্রতিপালনের দায়িত্ব থেকেও মুক্ত। তাই জ্ঞানার্জনের স্বাভাবিক কর্তব্যের বাইরে তারা সমাজসেবায় নিজেদের সহজে নিয়োজিত করতে পারে।

৭৬. The love of mother is never exhausted. It never changes; it never tires. The father may turn his back on child, brothers and sisters may become deadly enemies, but a mother's love endures through all. A mother always remembers her child's smile.

অনুবাদ : মায়ের ভালোবাসা কখনো নিঃশেষ হয় না। এটা কখনো বদলায় না; কখনো ক্লান্ত হয় না। বাবা তার সন্তানের প্রতি বিমুখ হতে পারে, ভাই-বোেন চরম শত্রু হতে পারে কিন্তু মায়ের ভালোবাসা চিরন্তন। সন্তানের হাসি মা সবসময় মনে রাখে।

৭৭. The War of Liberation is a unique incident in our national life. The dauntless sons of Bangladesh have liberated the country sacrificing their lives. The freedom fighters are our pride. Their memory shall remain immortal in

history. It is our moral responsibility to pay homage to them.

অনুবাদ : মুক্তিযুদ্ধ আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে একটি অনন্য ঘটনা। বাংলার অকুতোভয় সন্তানেরা নিজেদের জীবন উৎসর্গ করে দেশকে স্বাধীন করেছেন। মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা আমাদের গর্ব । তাদের স্মৃতি ইতিহাসে অমর হয়ে থাকবে। তাদের প্রতি সম্মান প্রদর্শন করা আমাদের নৈতিক দায়িত্ব।

৭৮. The 21st February is a red letter day in our national life. Every year we remember this day with respect. It is a public holiday. On this day the national flag is kept half mast. Meetings, seminars are held. Every Shaheed Minar is covered with flowers. Those who sacrificed their lives for mother tongue are immortal. It is a matter of pride for us that UNESCO declared the 21st February the International Mother Language Day in 1999.

অনুবাদ : একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে একটি স্মরণীয় দিন। প্রতিবছর এ দিনটি আমরা শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করি। দিনটি সরকারি ছুটির দিন। এই দিনে জাতীয় পতাকা অর্ধনমিত রাখা হয়। সভা সেমিনার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। প্রতিটি শহিদ মিনার ফুলে ফুলে ঢেকে যায়। যারা ভাষার জন্য জীবন দিয়েছে, তারা অমর। এটা আমাদের জন্য গৌরবের বিষয় যে, ইউনেস্কো ১৯৯৯ সালে ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিকে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে ঘােষণা করেছে।

৭৯. The proverb 'Health is wealth is indeed very true. Even a millionaire will have to lead a miserable life if his health breaks down. Health is, undoubtedly, a valuable asset. A healhy man is a blessing for his family and his society. On the other hand, if he is sick, he becomes a burden for all.

অনুবাদ : স্বাস্থ্যই সম্পদ’ এই প্রচলিত কথাটি বাস্তবিক খুবই সত্যি। একজন কোটিপতিও দুর্বিষহ জীবনযাপন করবে যদি তার স্বাস্থ। ভেঙে পড়ে। নিঃসন্দেহে স্বাস্থ্য একটি অমূল্য সম্পদ। একজন স্বাস্থ্যবান মানুষ তার পরিবারের এবং সমাজের জন্য আশীর্বাদস্বরূপ। পক্ষান্তরে, যদি সে রুগ্ণ হয় তাহলে সে সবার জন্য বোঝা হয়ে দাঁড়ায় এ পাতায়।

৮০. Terrorism is a social malady. Social peace is hampered due to terrorism. Terrorism springs from the lack of proper enforcement of laws. Because of their own interest the terrors become so cruel that they do not even hesitate to kill people. Common people are so afraid of them that they can not dare to protect them. If they are not cleansed, our society and country can never be developed.

অনুবাদ : সন্ত্রাস একটি সামাজিক ব্যাধি। সন্ত্রাসের কারণে সামাজিক শান্তি বিঘ্নিত হয়। সুষ্ঠু আইন প্রয়োগের অভাবই সন্ত্রাসে জন্ম দেয়। স্বার্থের কারণে সন্ত্রাসীরা এতই নিষ্ঠুর হয় যে, তারা খুন করতেও দ্বিধা করে না। তাদের ভয়ে সাধারণ মানুষ এতই ভীত থাকে যে, কেউ প্রতিরোধ করতে সাহস পায় না। এদের নির্মূল করতে না পারলে সমাজ ও দেশ কোনোদিন উন্নত হবে না।

৮১. The life of a student is a life of preparation for the struggle of life. To make him well fitted for struggle education is necessary. Students of today will lead nation tomorrow. But if the education is not complete, would they be able to lead the country to peace and prosperity?

অনুবাদ : ছাত্রজীবন হলো জীবন সংগ্রামের প্রস্তুতি গ্রহণের সময়। তাকে সংগ্রামের জন্য উপযুক্ত করে তোলার জন্য প্রয়োজন। শিক্ষা। আজকের ছাত্ররা আগামী দিন জাতিকে নেতৃত্ব দিবে। কিন্তু তাদের শিক্ষা যদি অসম্পূর্ণ থাকে, তারা কি দেশকে শান্তি ও সমৃদ্ধির পথে পরিচালিত করতে সমর্থ হবে?
